The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
This is as the song says, 'The most wonderful time of the year' Unless that is you're unemployed or underemployed. Face it, Christmas is less fun when you have less money. Or at least that's what I thought, but something happened to change my opinion.
I was in the Dollar store yesterday buying some wrapping paper and when I was checking out they asked if I wanted to buy a toy for the toys for tots bin. Since it was only a dollar I thought sure why not. Then I was thinking that it wasn't that great some dollar toy. All of a sudden it hit me. That dollar toy might be the only toy some little kid gets and they will probably be pretty excited to get it.
So I was being a snob. What kind of good deed is that? It hardly cost anything. Then I realized, even in my current broke state I could do something nice for someone else. I have to tell you, that made me feel better.
Sounds corny doesn't it. Well maybe it is a little. But the Whos were right. Christmas is not something you get in the store, Christmas perhaps is a little bit more. thanks doc (In case you didn't get it yet I love the Grinch who stole Christmas - Cartoon version only of course).
The point I'm trying to make is that you can find the Christmas spirit someplace other than a store. Chances to help others are all around you. Help someone who's swamped get ready for Christmas. Visit someone who's lonely. Help someone with their Christmas project. Everywhere you look there are chances to make someone's holiday better which will also make yours better. I promise. Really.
