One
day, in the depths of my unemployment way back
in the
day, when I got yet one more piece of bad news, my mom looked at me and
said, 'Honey, you better get up so they stop kicking you' and the next
day
kickmeimdown.com was born.
It has been
a while since I updated the site regularly. I got a job
after my
long period of unemployment and as time went on, I got lazy about
updating the
site. I didn't stop writing, I just decided to try my hand at mystery
writing
and at the moment I'm trying to sell that book. Still I never gave up
on the
site completely; each year when the site was due to expire I would send
in the
money and renew it for one more year. I'm still working, at a different
place
now and I've been there five years. I honestly believe the site helped
me get
this job. During my interview I told my soon to be boss about the run
for
governor and the website. That evening I took a look at my site stats
and I saw
that the server for the company where I had applied was listed as
visiting my
website. They also spent an entire two hours reading it. I called my
mom that
day, and said 'well that will decide it one way or the other'. The next
day they
called and
offered me the job.
The website
has done a lot for me; it gave me a creative outlet when no
one
wanted to listen to me. It helped me connect with other people who were
unemployed and from the emails I received, it sounded like it helped
them
too. It taught me a lot, and I think it's time to go back to it. Watch
this space for further updates. In the meantime, all the old stuff
still resides at the links below.
